Geeks talk sexy
17 April 2011 18:36I have many things I’ve been meaning to write, I’ve just been letting them percolate until they’re ready. That’s not to say I’ve rested on my laurels, oh no. I have successfully given up alcohol for three months. that proved easier than first thought and allowing myself alcohol again has been ok. In all honesty I’ve not even felt the urge to have as much with meals or to enjoy the taste. Mind you, I did give the hoegaarden a bit of a caning the other night, so I’m no saint and I’ll snigger at anyone who thought I was!
I’ve also co-delivered the latest part of geeks talk sexy and talked about hacking relationships. It went really well and got a lot of good feedback. A lot of people have been very negative and skeptical about geeks talk sexy, perhaps there has been some fair comment, so this time we listened to the criticism, restructured and really went for the content. I think it worked really well, and the feedback we got was that yes indeed we nailed it this time (pun totally intended!).
Geeks talk sexy was also quite a scary proposition as Chris and I outed ourselves as polyamorous to the audience to talk about hacking relationships and challenging the idea that monogamy is the only mode that can work. We didn’t polyvangelise, we didn’t paint it as a model for all, we told the truth and worked to inform and entertain. Whilst I’ve been open about my polyamorous relationships for a while, I’ve not done anything like this before. For opening up, I am happy to answer questions, take criticism about my choices and provide informed counter points and examples to comments. I’m also spurred on to write up the talk for polytical.org as well as develop some more very down to earth and practical talks on sex, relationships and other topics.
If you have any topics you’d like me to cover, then please do share something in the comments.
Next week sees me heading North for some serious cave time. You can take the boy out of the North, but you can’t take the North out of the boy. I need some time to meditate on things, be mindful of who I am and plot for the future. I won’t be tweeting, facebooking or blogging. I shall be keeping an eye on emails, however the way to contact me is via text or phone. I’m going to hermit for a while, gather my resources and come back refreshed and revitalised. Oh, and my north east accent will be turned up to 11, if you like a softly spoken maccum boy, then next week will be the time to call me!
See you on the other side!
